Abstract
Non-load-bearing walls can be freely positioned and relocated; therefore, the method of their connection to adjacent wall elements is of considerable importance. Conventional solutions include masonry bonding or steel wall ties, while polymer-based connectors and reinforcement meshes offer alternative approaches. This study proposes an innovative connection system for non-load-bearing masonry walls using a three-dimensionally arranged Silica Glass Mesh, which serves both as wall-junction reinforcement and bed-joint reinforcement. Experimental tests were conducted on 12 specimens made of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) masonry units, including traditional bonded connections (P), connections reinforced with mesh placed in bed joints (H), and connections reinforced with a spatially arranged mesh (SHP). The results showed that traditional connections achieved the highest load-bearing capacity. However, mesh-reinforced connections, particularly those with spatial mesh reinforcement, exhibited more stable behaviour, greater deformability, and a more gradual load-transfer mechanism, indicating their practical potential.
